A heartwarming blend of creativity and corporate responsibility, Crowne Plaza Dhaka Gulshan has unveiled a unique Christmas tree designed entirely from 3688 onetime plastic bottles.
Conceptualized and assembled by the hotel’s leadership team, the installation stands as a powerful representation of the theme “RRR – Reduce. Reuse. Revive.”, aligning strongly with IHG’s global sustainability commitment, Journey to Tomorrow.
Firoze Asad, senior group adviser and member of the board of Doreen, unveiled the ‘RRR’ Christmas tree.
Transforming discarded plastic into a meaningful festive symbol, the tree showcases the hotel’s leadership-led approach to raising awareness about plastic reduction and environmental responsibility.
Every bottle used in the installation was intentionally collected and saved over several months by the hotel’s senior leaders demonstrating that impactful sustainability begins with conscious individual actions.
“We wanted to celebrate Christmas in a way that reflects our values. This tree, built from reused plastic boards, is a symbol of the change we can drive when we lead with purpose. Sustainability is not just a policy for us - it is a mindset we want to inspire in our people, our guests, and our community.”
The initiative originated in July when the hotel’s leadership team collectively committed to eliminating single-use plastics in both their professional and personal lives.
The Christmas tree stands today as a tangible result of that commitment.
“In July, we challenged ourselves to stop using single-use plastics - not just in hotel operations but in our homes and every event we participated in,” added Karthi VK.
“Today, this installation represents the difference between those choices made. I strongly believe that meaningful change grows from consistent small steps - and as leaders, it must start with us.”
Rooted in IHG’s Journey to Tomorrow sustainability framework, this innovative installation reinforces that sustainability is not a festive gesture, but a year-round responsibility to people, planet, and community.
