Members of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) have arrested two individuals in connection with the murder of a government primary school headteacher.
She was allegedly killed during an attempted bag-snatching near the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban in the capital.
The arrestees are Md Poni alias Para Poni and his accomplice.
RAB also seized the motorcycle allegedly used in the crime.
However, the elite force did not immediately disclose when or where they arrested the two suspects. The identity of the accomplice was also not disclosed.
A RAB-2 official said Additional Deputy Inspector General of Police Naimul Hasan, the battalion commanding officer, was scheduled to brief the media in this regard on Sunday afternoon.
Ranjina Parvin, headteacher of Bagbari Balika Government Primary School in Bogura, died on Saturday after falling from a rickshaw during an attempted bag-snatching near the South Plaza of the Parliament Complex.
Police said she had come to Dhaka from Bogura for medical treatment. At around 6:30am on Saturday, two individuals riding a motorbike allegedly attempted to snatch her bag while she was travelling by rickshaw, causing her to fall and sustain a severe head injury.
She was later declared dead at Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital.
