The government has distributed financial assistance worth Tk 213.56 crore among 5,084 road accident victims and the families of those killed in crashes between 2023 and May 2026.
Road transport and bridges minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam disclosed the information in a written answer while replying to a supplementary question from BNP lawmaker Nipun Roy Chowdhury during the seventh sitting of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad’s second session.
According to the minister, the beneficiaries included the families of 3,881 people killed in road accidents, alongside 829 injured victims and 374 seriously injured victims.
The total amount of financial assistance distributed during the period stood at Tk 213,56,00,000, he said.
The minister also informed parliament that the government and the World Bank were jointly implementing the Bangladesh Road Safety Project to reduce accidents on highways.
As part of the project's post-crash management component, trained emergency responders and ambulance services have been deployed to ensure rapid rescue operations and provide necessary medical treatment to accident victims, he said.
The project is currently under implementation and aims to strengthen road safety and emergency response systems across the country, according to the minister.
