Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested 26 leaders and activists of the Awami League, whose activities remain banned, and its associate bodies in separate drives across the capital yesterday.

According to a press release signed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Media) Niaz Mehdi, ten were arrested from Dhanmondi, eight from Mohammadpur, two each from Ramna and Khilkhet, and one each from the Banshal, Kadamtali, Mirpur and Turag police station areas.

Police said the operations would continue to maintain public safety and normal law and order in the capital.

Legal proceedings against the arrestees are underway, the statement added.
