China’s Foreign Minister Wang Yi has said that China always upholds the purposes and principles of the United Nations Charter and opposes the use of force in international relations.
He stated that “shamelessly” killing the leader of a sovereign country and provoking a change of government is out of the question. “It is not acceptable for the United States and Israel to launch attacks against Iran amid their ongoing discussions,” Wang added.
The Chinese Embassy in Dhaka on Monday commented on the foreign minister’s reaction, saying that such steps violate international law and the fundamental rules of international relations.
China expressed concern that the conflict has now spread throughout the Persian Gulf region and warned that the situation in the Middle East is being pushed to the brink of a dangerous abyss.
On China’s position regarding the Middle East situation, the embassy outlined three points:
First, military actions should be stopped immediately. To prevent the situation from getting out of control, the spread and escalation of conflict must be avoided. China attaches importance to the security of Gulf countries and supports their efforts to exercise restraint.
Second, all parties should return to dialogue and negotiations as soon as possible. They should promote peace, discourage war, and urge the relevant sides to resume discussions without delay.
Third, unilateral measures should be jointly opposed. Military attacks against a sovereign state without United Nations Security Council approval undermine the post-World War II foundations of peace. The international community should raise a clear and unambiguous voice against the “law of the jungle.”
