11 districts get new DCs, two ministries get new secretaries

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government on Sunday appointed deputy commissioners to 11 more districts as part of its ongoing reshuffle in the civil administration.

The appointments were made by withdrawing the previous DCs of the respective districts while the government also appointed new secretaries to two ministries.

The Ministry of Public Administration issued separate gazettes on Sunday, stating that the decisions would come into effect immediately.

Officials of the rank of deputy secretary are typically appointed as DCs, serving as representatives of the government at the district level.

They oversee general administration, maintain law and order as district magistrates, manage land administration as collectors, and supervise the implementation of government development programmes and special initiatives.

The government on Sunday promoted defence ministry additional secretary Md Ashraful Islam to the rank of secretary and appointed him to the liberation war affairs ministry.

The ministry’s previous secretary Ishrat Chowdhury was attached to the public administration ministry.
