Prime Minister Tarique Rahman visited Evercare Hospital in Dhaka this afternoon to see Mirza Abbas, a BNP Standing Committee member and the prime minister’s political adviser.

At the hospital, the prime minister inquired about the overall health condition of Abbas, who is currently undergoing treatment there.

Tarique Rahman spent some time beside Abbas’s hospital bed and also spoke with members of his family.

During the visit, the prime minister instructed the relevant authorities to take swift steps to arrange advanced treatment for Abbas in Singapore, said the prime minister’s Deputy Press Secretary Jahidul Islam.

Afroza Abbas, Mirza Abbas's wife and president of Jatiyatabadi Mohila Dal, was present at the hospital along with the doctors attending to him.

Dhaka-8 MP Mirza Abbas was admitted to Evercare Hospital after he suddenly fell ill and lost consciousness on Wednesday night.

Talking to the journalists, Social Welfare, Women and Children Affairs Minister Prof AZM Zahid Hossain said Abbas has been kept in the Neuro ICU under close observation.

“The prime minister is regularly taking updates on his condition,” Zahid said.

He added that a medical board comprising senior neurologists has been formed.

Preparations have also been made to transfer Abbas to Singapore’s National University Hospital if the medical board instructs, and an air ambulance has been kept ready, he said.
