Chief whip Nurul Islam Moni on Monday said that an acute safe water crisis had emerged on the Jatiya Sangsad premises.
‘Murky water has been coming out of the taps for the past two to three days. I myself have suffered from a stomach illness,’ he told journalists after the second meeting of a Sangsad committee.
According to him, the daily demand for water in the parliament complex is one crore litres, but the existing pump produces only 27 lakh litres.
‘We will request the government to install new pumps,’ he said.
He further said that the committee was working on an emergency basis to allocate residences to lawmakers by April 10.
The committee also discussed improving hospital facilities, the requirement for medicines, an ICU ambulance, and a freezer van for transporting bodies.
‘Most importantly, our sound system is still not functioning. We are trying to include the sound system in the ongoing arrangements. If that is not possible, a new system will be installed, though it will take time,’ Nurul Islam said.
A probe committee assigned to submit a report on the issue by April 2 began work on Monday.
The next meeting of the committee will be held on April 1.
