A severe gas shortage continued to disrupt household cooking in Dhaka and other parts of Bangladesh on Monday, with consumers reporting prolonged low gas pressure for more than a week.

Residents said gas supply remained unavailable for most of the day, while weak pressure made cooking difficult even when supply resumed. Many households have switched to electric stoves and LPG cylinders, increasing their living costs, as per local media reports.

The shortage has also affected industrial production, commercial activities and the transport sector, although its impact has been most acute on domestic consumers.

In a statement issued on Sunday, state-owned Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Limited said regasified liquefied natural gas (RLNG) supply from the Maheshkhali LNG terminals had fallen by about 450 million cubic feet per day (MMCFD) due to a technical fault.

The company warned that all categories of consumers in the Titas distribution network would continue to experience severe low gas pressure until the supply situation improves.
