A Cumilla court today recorded the confessional statements of two accused and ordered the collection of the victim’s swab samples for DNA profiling in a case filed over the alleged rape of a woman and forcing her to undergo an abortion.

Senior Judicial Magistrate of Cognisance Court-3 Tayeb Uddin recorded the confessional statement and passed the order, investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Imam Uddin, told Daily Star.

The IO refused to mention names of the two accused who gave confessional statement.

Three accused in the case -- Sekandar Ali, 24, Golam Rabbi, 26, and Sajib Hasan 21 -- were produced before the court and sent to jail after proceedings.

Prime accused in the case, expelled Islami Chhatra Shibir leader Jisan Mia Pradhan, 28, currently remains admitted at Cumilla Medical College Hospital under police custody.

Meanwhile, a four-member medical board has been formed to assess Jisan's physical condition, said Cumilla Medical College Hospital acting director Mohammad Shahjahan.

He said the medical board will examine Jisan and submit its findings at around 11:00am tomorrow. “If he is found to be feigning illness despite being medically fit, he will be discharged from the hospital.”

Meanwhile, the victim underwent a medical examination at the hospital's One-Stop Crisis Centre on Sunday.

She filed a case naming Jisan as the prime accused on charges of rape, abetment of rape, forced abortion and criminal intimidation.

Islami Chhatra Shibir central committee on Saturday removed Jisan from his post as assistant secretary for international affairs following his arrest in the case.
