Leaders of left leaning political parties on Friday demanded people-friendly budget from the government for the coming financial year.

The demand came from the Socialist Party of Bangladesh, Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasod and Revolutionary Communist League for which the SPB held a rally, while the two others sent statements to the media.

Socialist Party of Bangladesh leaders at a protest rally in front of the National Press Club in Dhaka city called on the Bangladesh Nationalist Party-led government to formulate a national budget, ensuring the rights of the common people.

At the event chaired by its central leader Nikhil Das, they also demanded scrapping of the ‘unequal’ business deals signed with the United States during the interim government.

Party general secretary Bazlur Rashid Firoz termed the budget proposed budget in the parliament on Thursday as unrealistic and highly ambitious, stating that the deficit budget was heavily depending on foreign loans.

The central executive committee of Jatiya Samajtantrik Dal-Jasod in a press statement said that the highly ambitious budget was not realistic and implementable.

The budget, if implemented, would increase people’s suffering, as prices of essential commodities would soar impacted by increasing power and fuel prices.

The Revolutionary Communist League in a press statement demanded further increase budgetary allocations for education, health and agricultural sectors.
