Kazi Rajib Uddin Ahmed Chapal, the former general secretary of Bangladesh Archery Federation, is set to run for presidency of World Archery Asia in Dhaka next week.
The congress of the Asian chapter of the world archery body will be held in Dhaka on November 8 at the sidelines of the Teer 24th Asian Archery Championships, which will run from November 8-14.
A long-time vice-president of WAA, Chapal is hoping to unseat the incumbent president, Euisun Chung, a South Korean billionaire and executive chairman of Hyundai Motor Group.
BAF president Dr Mokhlesur Rahman, speaking at a press briefing ahead of the congress and championships, expressed his optimism that the WAA election could prove to be a game-changer in the history of Asian archery.
"If Mr. Chapal is elected president, the Asian Archery headquarters will move from South Korea to Bangladesh for the next four years. We are hopeful and request everyone to keep us in their prayers."
Speaking about his candidacy for the Asian Archery presidency, Chapal said, "At everyone's request, I am running for the position. Previously, I was elected as vice president with the highest votes. With your prayers and support, I hope to lead Asian Archery as president."
Thirty-two delegates out of a total of 43 member-states are expected to attend the congress to cast their votes and elect a new executive body.
