The investigation agency of the International Crimes Tribunal has requested copies of the government-issued licence of Ekattor Television and all related documents as part of its investigation into alleged crimes against humanity committed during the Hefazat-e-Islam gathering at Shapla Chattar in Dhaka’s Motijheel in May 5–6, 2013.

In a letter on Monday, the ICT investigation agency asked the chief operating officer of Ekattor Television to provide the documents to assist the ongoing investigation.

The licence document was sought after the International Crimes Tribunal-1 on Sunday allowed investigators to interrogate former Ekattor Television chief reporter and presenter Farzana Rupa, former Awami League minister Dipu Moni and former Ekattor Media Limited managing director Mozammel Haque Babu for one day each in a crimes against humanity case over the Shapla Chattar crackdown.

The request was made in connection with complaint register No 146, filed on November 28, 2024, and ICT-BD miscellaneous case No 15 of 2025.

According to the letter, investigating officer Fateh Md Iftekharul Alam sought the licence copy and related records for the purpose of conducting a fair and proper investigation into allegations of crimes against humanity under Section 3(2) of the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act, 1973.

The investigation agency forwarded the officer’s application to the television channel and requested its full cooperation, citing the national importance of the matter.

The letter was signed by Muhammad Shahidullah Chowdhury, the coordinator of the ICT investigation agency.
