Brad Arnold, the lead vocalist and a founding member of the American rock band 3 Doors Down, passed away on Saturday (February 7) following a fight with cancer. He was 47.
A representative confirmed that Arnold died peacefully in his sleep, with his wife and family by his side.
Originally the drummer and vocalist of the band, Arnold co-founded 3 Doors Down in 1996 in Escatawpa, Mississippi. He went on to play a key role in shaping the band’s success, most notably by writing and producing their breakthrough 2000 hit, “Kryptonite”, a song he penned at just 15 years old.
In May 2025, Arnold shared a video message on social media revealing that he had been diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer, which had spread to his lungs. In the emotional clip, he spoke candidly about his condition, saying doctors had identified clear cell renal cell carcinoma. Despite the seriousness of the diagnosis, Arnold expressed strong faith and said he was not afraid, though the illness forced the band to cancel their summer tour.
He also asked fans to keep him in their prayers, referencing the band’s song “It’s Not My Time” as a source of comfort.
Brad Arnold is survived by his wife, Jennifer.
