Two journalists were killed after a bus hit their motorcycle in Dhaka's Uttara early today while they were returning home after watching the FIFA World Cup semifinal.
The deceased were identified as Rabiul Alam Raju, a journalist at Praner Bangladesh, and Sakibul Hasan at Sangbad Diganta.
Both were members of the Uttara Press Club, police said.
The accident occurred around 4:00am near the Jasimuddin bus stand in Uttara Sector 3, when a bus heading towards Tongi struck their motorcycle, said Khalid Monsur, officer-in-charge of Uttara West Police Station.
The two journalists were returning home after watching the England-Argentina World Cup semifinal on a giant screen somewhere in Uttara, the OC said.
They were taken to Kurmitola General Hospital in critical condition, where doctors declared them dead.
The bus fled the scene after the crash. Police are trying to identify the vehicle and trace its driver, the OC added.
