Six leaders of the Shahbazpur union BNP in Sarail upazila have been expelled from the party for actively participating in the election campaign of independent candidate Barrister Rumeen Farhana.
The expulsion was announced on Tuesday afternoon through a press release signed by ABM Salauddin, the union BNP office secretary.
The expelled leaders are Munshi Aman Mia, union BNP general secretary; Jewel Ahmed, office secretary; Julhas Khan, publicity secretary; Nur Uddin, joint youth secretary; Monir Hossain, joint organising secretary; and Abdul Malek, ward‑6 member.
Acting under the directives of Anisul Islam Thakur, vice president of the district BNP and president of Sarail upazila unit of the party, and Nuruzzaman Lasker Topu, district BNP’s legal affairs secretary and upazila general secretary, the leaders were removed from all positions, including primary membership of the party.
Sources said the expelled leaders had been actively involved in Rumeen Farhana’s campaign from the beginning.
“By defying the central directives and working for Rumeen Farhana’s campaign, they violated party discipline, which led to their expulsion,” explained Nuruzzaman.
