The National Citizen Party (NCP) has permanently expelled Aftab Mazumder, a member of its Chattogram metropolitan committee and a coordinator of Jatiya Jubo Shakti’s Bandar unit, following his arrest in a rape case filed by a 19-year-old woman.

In an office order signed by acting office secretary Ridwan Hridoy, issued this afternoon, the party’s Chattogram metropolitan committee said Aftab was removed over “serious allegations” of involvement in activities contrary to party principles, ideals and organisational discipline.

The expulsion will be effective immediately, said the order.

A joint team of police and Rab‑7 arrested the 28-year-old from Halishahar BDR Ground area on Wednesday night.

According to the case filed on July 19, Aftab became acquainted with the woman through Facebook and later invited her to meet him. The complaint alleged that he took her to a hotel in Bahaddarhat on July 14 and raped her, before cutting off contact.

Police said Aftab would be produced before a court today.

Meanwhile, Jatiya Jubo Shakti President Advocate Tarikul Islam told The Daily Star that all its previous committees in Chattogram, including the north, south, metropolitan and port units, were officially dissolved on May 6 this year.

"As a result, Aftab no longer holds any position in Jubo Shakti," he said.
