A Bangladeshi expatriate worker was killed in Israeli bomb attack in Lebanon’s Beirut on Wednesday.

The deceased, Dipali Begum, 34, was the daughter of Sheikh Mofazzal and Rozina Khatun, of Purbo Shalepur village in Faridpur’s Charbhadrasan upazila, said the Bangladesh Embassy in Beirut today.

She had been working as a housekeeper in Lebanon.

The embassy said Dipali was killed in a deadly Israeli bombardment on Wednesday while staying with her employers in Beirut's Hamra area.

Her employer and his family members were also killed in the attack.

According to Dipali's family members in Faridpur, she sustained injuries in the attack and was taken to a hospital, where she later died.

Beirut police sources said the deceased's body has been kept in the morgue of Rafik Hariri University Hospital in Beirut.

The embassy expressed sorrow over the death of the remittance warrior and conveyed deep sympathy to her bereaved family.

The deceased’s younger sister, Laiju Begum, told The Daily Star that Dipali had gone to Lebanon two years ago in search of a better livelihood.

“We last spoke to her on the morning of April 8,” she said.

About a month ago, Dipali moved from Chur to Beirut after the conflict escalated. “She told us the situation in Chur had worsened because of the fighting, so she relocated to Beirut with her employer’s family,” Laiju added.

Charbhadrasan Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shuraiya Mamtaz told The Daily Star, “We will provide all necessary support to the victim’s family to bring her body back. The process has already been initiated through diplomatic channels,” she said.

With Dipali's death, seven Bangladeshis have been killed so far in the US-Israel war on Iran.

The first victim was Ahmed Ali, also known as Saleh Ahmed, who died in the UAE on February 28 when the war broke out.

SM Tareq, a 48-year-old migrant worker, was killed in Bahrain on March 2 after debris from an intercepted drone fell on an industrial area.

On March 8, Bachchu Miah of Kishoreganj and Mosharraf Hossain of Tangail were killed in a missile strike in Saudi Arabia’s Al Kharj area, while Mohammad Abdullah Al Mamun, who was critically injured in the same attack, died in Riyadh on March 18 while undergoing treatment.

The sixth victim, identified as Mosaffir Hossain of Cumilla, was killed in Fujairah in the UAE when falling drone debris struck him on April 1.
