Prime Minister Tarique Rahman today directed members of the armed forces to remain above party lines and uphold the country’s sovereignty and constitutional dignity.
He also urged them to maintain public trust through duty, honesty, adherence to oath and sacrifice.
The prime minister gave the directives at a darbar held for members of the Bangladesh Armed Forces at Senaprangan Auditorium in Dhaka Cantonment, according to a press release issued by the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR).
On arrival, the prime minister was received by his defence adviser Brig Gen (retd) Dr AKM Shamsul Islam, the chiefs of the Bangladesh Army, Navy and Air Force, and the principal staff officer of the Armed Forces Division, the release said.
At the event, Tarique praised the professionalism and discipline of the armed forces, highlighting their role in safeguarding national security and representing Bangladesh internationally.
He also commended their role in maintaining law and order across the country since August 2024 and in ensuring the smooth conduct of the 13th national parliamentary election.
The prime minister assured continued government support for strengthening the armed forces’ capabilities, modernisation and role in national development.
Senior military and civil officials stationed in Dhaka, along with personnel of various ranks, attended the event.
Members posted in other parts of the country joined via video teleconference, the ISPR said.
