Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher on Sunday said his party will not field any candidates in the constituencies of Islami Andolan Bangladesh’s Senior Nayeb-e-Ameer Mufti Syed Muhammad Faizul Karim.
Taher made the remark while speaking to reporters on Sunday night after a meeting with Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus at the state guest house Jamuna.
Faizul Karim is contesting the national election from Barishal-5 (Sadar-city) and Barishal-6 (Bakerganj) constituencies under the party’s “hand fan” symbol.
Islami Andolan Bangladesh on Friday announced its exit from the Jamaat-led alliance.
The Jamaat leader said candidate Maulana Mahmudunnabi Talukder, secretary of Barishal district Jamaat, will withdraw candidature from Barishal-6.
Taher said Islami Andolan had a role in forming their current alliance. “Remembering that contribution and showing courtesy, we are withdrawing our candidate from Faizul Karim’s seat,” he said.
The Jamaat delegation at the Jamuna meeting also included Ameer Shafiqur Rahman, Secretary General Mia Golam Porwar, and Assistant Secretary General Maulana Rafiqul Islam Khan.
