Activists of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League brought out a flash procession at Dhaka University on Sunday.

Witnesses and university officials said that a group of about 18–20 people brought out the procession near the Raju Memorial Sculpture and its adjacent intersection.

Several videos of the procession shared on social media from different groups went viral.

A verified Facebook page of the Bangladesh Awami League, the activities of which have also been banned, also shared the videos, stating that it was a Chhatra League procession at Dhaka University.

In the videos, a group of young men were seen walking under the Dhaka University metro rail station and gathering briefly in front of the Raju Memorial Sculpture.

The activists were heard chanting slogans such as ‘Joy Bangla’ and ‘Sheikh Hasina will return’.

Dhaka University proctor Saifuddin Ahmed said that none of the participants had yet been identified and that authorities suspected that they were not students of the university.

‘We have asked the police to identify them and take necessary action,’ he said.

He added that the campus remained open to the public and was not a restricted area, making it difficult for the authorities to prevent outsiders from entering.

The proctor also said that the activists might have chosen the Eid holiday to bring out the procession as the campus was relatively empty.

Shahbagh police station officer-in-charge Md Moniruzzaman said that police were verifying the videos and trying to identify those involved.

Bangladesh Chhatra Shakti president Zahid Ahsan protested against the incident and visited Shahbagh police station, demanding action against the people involved in the flash procession.

He told reporters that they had observed activities of the banned BCL in recent days but the administration and law enforcement agencies remained inactive.

He said that they had given police a 24-hour ultimatum to arrest those involved in the flash procession, adding that the participants were likely BCL activists from different units and not Dhaka University students.

On October 23, 2025, the interim government banned the Bangladesh Chhatra League under the Anti-Terrorism Act on allegations of breaching public security over the previous 15 years.

In May 2025,, the government also banned all activities of the Bangladesh Awami League until the trial of its leaders and activists over allegations of atrocities during the July uprising in Bangladesh in 2024, which led to the ouster of the Awami League government on August 5, 2024.
