Leader of the Opposition in Parliament and Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman today urged the government to reconsider its decision to cancel the licence of Ad-din Hospital, arguing that any wrongdoing should be addressed through legal action against those responsible rather than by shutting down the institution.
In a post on his verified Facebook page this morning, Shafiqur referred to the recent deaths of six newborns at the hospital, describing the incident as deeply tragic.
"If any negligence, error, or offence is identified through an investigation, there is legal provision to take action against those responsible," he wrote.
"Instead, the licence of a hospital known as the 'hospital for the poor' and one that had earned public trust through quality healthcare has been cancelled. Ultimately, it is the people who will suffer," he added.
He also noted that Ad-din is a medical college hospital where around 400 to 500 medical students are studying, alongside a nursing programme.
Revoking the hospital's licence would create uncertainty for those students as well, he said.
