Retail chain shop Shwapno filed a general diary was with Tejgaon Industrial police station early Sunday nearly seven months after its website was hacked.

The cyber attackers obtained customers’ personal information and demanded a large ransom from the company amounting to nearly $1.5 million.

Tejgaon industrial police station officer-in-charge Md Mahmudur Rahman said that they filed the GD claiming international cybercrime organisation ‘Qilin’ ransomware group, hacker group ‘LockBit 5.0’ and other unidentified cybercriminals as accused.

‘We have already forwarded the GD to the Counter Terrorism and Transitional Crime unit to investigate the incident,’ the OC said.

Shwapno managing director Sabbir Hasan said that hackers had gained control of the company’s customer database last year and had been demanding $1.5 million since around August 2025 to restore access, United News of Bangladesh reported.

‘The company did not comply with the demand,’ the UNB quoted Sabbir as saying.

Urging caution, Shwapno advised customers to remain alert against potential phishing attempts and fraud.

‘We request customers not to share personal or financial information over calls or messages from unknown or suspicious numbers, and to avoid clicking on unverified links,’ the company said, adding that it never asked for passwords or OTPs over phone calls.

The company, a subsidiary of ACI PLC, said that it was preparing to file a case and was working with local law enforcement, including the CTTC unit, as well as international forensic experts to address the breach.
