A woman attending her hospitalised two-year-old daughter at Natore 250-bed General Hospital was allegedly raped inside the hospital by a sweeper on early Monday.

The victim’s father filed a rape case with Natore sadar police station on Tuesday against the sweeper and his two associates, said officer-in-charge Monsur Rahman.

The accused are Amit, 23, Anil, 23, and Prangon, 24, all of whom work as outsourcing sweepers at the hospital.

The police official said that following the filing of the case, they arrested the three and sent them to jail through a Natore court on Tuesday afternoon.

According to the case statement, the victim’s daughter was admitted to the hospital’s children ward on June 5.

On Sunday night, Amit took the woman, aged 18, to the sixth floor of the hospital on the pretext of providing medicine for her child.

He then allegedly raped her there while the two others assisted him and recorded video footage of the incident on mobile phones.

The accused also threatened to release the footage on social media if she disclosed the matter, the case statement said.

The incident came to light when nurses noticed the child crying unattended in the ward and began searching for her mother.

After reviewing CCTV footage, hospital staff traced the woman to the sixth floor, where they found her and brought before the hospital authorities.

The victim’s father alleged that despite learning of the incident, hospital authorities initially did not hand the accused over to police.

Contacted, acting superintendent of the hospital Md Arshad Ali said that such an incident inside a hospital was extremely unfortunate and necessary actions would be taken against those found involved.
