Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed today said that no words like "teen gangs" will remain in Dhaka's Mohammadpur, announcing intensified drives against juvenile gangs in the area.

“We want to announce together (police and RAB) that there will be no existence of teen gangs in Mohammadpur. No words such as 'teen gangs' will exist in Mohammadpur,” he said while speaking as a chief guest at a view exchange meeting on law and order with local residents at the Basila Police Lines in Mohammadpur this afternoon.

At the meeting, residents raised three primary concerns -- teen gangs, drugs, and mugging.

The DMP commissioner said police, with support from residents, would conduct regular drives against teen gangs and expressed hope that Mohammadpur would soon be free of them (teen gangs).

He said police have prepared lists of teen gangs and drug spots in Mohammadpur, and instructed all officers and personnel in the area to step up operations at those locations.

“Every teen gang hideout, from rickshaw garages to drug spots, must face intensified operations,” Mosleh Uddin said.

He also directed police to raid autorickshaw garages daily and arrest anyone found there at night.

The DMP boss said police statistics indicated an improvement in the crime situation in Mohammadpur over the past three months compared to the previous three months, pointing to arrests of muggers and teen gang members as well as action against drug dealers and users.

However, he said crime statistics alone should not be used to assess the situation, as residents want an area completely free of mugging, teen gangs, and drugs.

“We have zero tolerance against drugs, teen gangs and mugging. But the police can't achieve this alone,” he said, seeking cooperation from residents.

He urged residents to form ward-based committees against drugs and teen gangs and to work alongside community policing committees.

RAB Director General Ahsan Habib Palash, DMP Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) Osman Gani, RAB-2 Commanding Officer Naimul Hasan, Tejgaon Deputy Commissioner Ibn-e-Mizan, representatives of local political parties, residents, and senior police officials were present at the meeting.
