Bangladesh government has deployed army personnel in six districts — Dhaka, Chattogram, Gazipur, Narayanganj, Faridpur and Gopalganj — till June 30 for maintaining law and order amid fear of sabotage marking the Awami League’s 77th founding anniversary on June 23.

Home ministry public relations officer Faisal Hassan confirmed the matter and said that the Army would remain deployed in the six districts from Monday till June 30.

‘An order was also issued in this connection,’ he added.

Meanwhile, Dhaka Metropolitan Police will deploy over 18,000 police personnel across Dhaka city on June 23 to maintain law and order and ensure security.

Earlier, the police warned of possible clashes between leaders and activists of the Bangladesh Awami League, whose activities are now banned, and members of various political parties, particularly the National Citizen Party and Students Against Discrimination, across the country over the AL’s founding anniversary on June 23.

They said that necessary measures would be taken to prevent any untoward situation.
