Police have recovered two mobile phones snatched from thr director general of the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) and arrested two alleged muggers in connection with the incident in the capital’s Mohammadpur area.
The mugging victim was ACC Director General (Inquiry and Investigation-2) Md Motahar Hossain. The muggers held him hostage at knifepoint and snatched his mobile phones, cash and wristwatch.
Mohammadpur Police Station conducted a drive around 11:30pm on Sunday and arrested two suspects while also recovering the two snatched iPhones.
The arrested are Shahjada and Rubel, alias Boxer. Police claimed that both are members of a mugging gang.
Assistant Police Commissioner of Mohammadpur Zone under the Tejgaon Division of Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Md Abdullah Al Mamun, said the recovered phones are an iPhone 6 Plus and an iPhone 12 Pro Max belonging to the ACC director general.
According to police, the incident took place around 10:30pm on Saturday when Motahar Hossain was walking past Shaheed Farhan Faiyaz Square (Nanak Square) beside Residential College in Mohammadpur.
At that time, a group of muggers surrounded him with locally made sharp weapons and started beating him before snatching two iPhones, Tk15,000 in cash and a wristwatch.
