Theatre troupe Natyam Repertory organised a poetry event of poet, reciter and writer Faruque Azam at the studio theatre hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Thursday.

The event consisted of songs, poem recitations and discussion after Irin Pervin Lopa delivered a welcome speech.

‘A multi-talented cultural personality Faruque Azam works to promote Bengali culture in New Jersey in the USA. We are happy to organise the event which became a gathering of poets, musicians, theatre activists and writers,’ said Irin Pervin Lopa.

Faruque Azam said that people came to attend the poetry evening amid the extreme cold weather which was inspiring to him.

He recited poems of expatriate Bengali poets with some songs of Kabir Suman and Rabindranath Tagore at the event.

Faruque Azam, a doctor and Psychiatry specialist, published two recitation albums, one with renowned poet Nirmalendu Goon and the other with renowned reciter Rupa Chakrobarty.

He is one of the founders of AASTHA Theatre Group in New Jersey and president of Bangladesh Theatre of America in New York.
