A man has died in Faridpur after contracting dengue. Over the past 24 hours, another 24 people with symptoms of dengue have been admitted to Faridpur Medical College Hospital.

Faridpur Civil Surgeon Mahmudul Hasan said Sekendar Mallick died while undergoing treatment at the hospital on the night of Sept 7. He had been admitted after being diagnosed with dengue.

Mallick, 55, was a resident of Rajoir Upazila in Madaripur district.

In a press release issued by the Faridpur Directorate General of Health Services on Wednesday, it was reported that 24 new dengue patients had been admitted to hospitals in the past day. Currently, 60 dengue patients are receiving treatment at various hospitals across the district.

According to data from the district DGHS, 344 dengue patients have received treatment at hospitals since January this year. Of them, 282 have recovered and returned home. Four people have died during this period.

Faridpur Civil Surgeon Mahmudul Hasan said everyone needs to remain vigilant to prevent dengue. He advised people to quickly remove stagnant water around their homes, destroy mosquito breeding grounds, and use mosquito nets or other mosquito repellent measures even during the daytime.

Health department officials said that if symptoms of dengue appear, patients should not neglect them and should seek medical advice promptly. In case of fever, patients should drink plenty of water and other fluids and undergo tests and treatment as advised by doctors.

Meanwhile, District Commissioner Md Mazharul Islam said various awareness campaigns are being conducted at educational institutions across the district to raise awareness about dengue prevention.

In addition, the district health department, local administration and municipalities have further strengthened coordinated efforts to destroy mosquito breeding grounds.
