A driver was killed and his assistant was injured after a sand-laden truck fell into a canal following a bridge collapse on Tuesday in Barishal.

The deceased was Naeem, 26, and the helper who was injured was Al Amin, 26.

The incident took place at about 1:20pm at Lalmohan upazila in Bhola, according to officer-in-charge of Lalmohan police station Oliur Rahman.

The locals rescued and took them to the Lalmohan Upazila Health Complex, where doctors pronounced Naeem dead.

Al Amin was later sent to Barishal Sher-e Bangla Medical College Hospital for better treatment.

Local sources claimed that the bridge had been in hazardous condition for quite some time before the incident occurred.
