A ten-day print exhibition titled ‘Collagraph Printmaking Exhibition’ opened on Wednesday at the Kaalnee Art Studio at Rayerbazar in Dhaka.
Renowned artists, including Abul Barq Alvi, Nisar Hossain, Shishir Bhattacharya, Saifuddin Ahmed, Rashid Amin, Tarek Amin, and UK-based Bangladeshi artist Zaman Md Fakruzzaman, were present as guests at the opening ceremony.
The exhibition features 19 prints created by 14 artists using collagraph techniques. The exhibition is the outcome of a four-day workshop conducted by Zaman Md Fakruzzaman and coordinated by Tarek Amin.
The workshop was jointly organised by the Kaalnee Art Studio and the East London Academy of Art from May 8 to 11 at the studio premises.
Artists Shushanta Kumar Adhikary, Ashraful Hasan, Ruhul Amin Tarek, Shahanoor Mamun, Firoja Akhter Jui, Shamsul Alam Innan, Mahmuda Maria, Suborna Morshaeda, Ummey Mabruka, Mohammad Tawfique, Faria Khanum Tuly, and Apu Nandy Tonmoy were the participants of the workshop.
Collagraphy is a printmaking method that involves creating a textured plate by pasting various materials — such as fabric, leaves, paper, and paste — onto a rigid base like cardboard, which is then sealed and inked for printing.
Zaman Md Fakruzzaman noted that the event ended successfully because the participating artists worked with immense seriousness, creativity, and curiosity throughout the workshop.
‘The displayed artworks showcase their artistic excellence using these new techniques. I hope all participating artists will continue practicing these printmaking methods, develop their own unique artistic languages, and grow further in their creative journeys,’ said Zaman who also displayed his four artworks created with collagraphy.
Tarek Amin mentioned that the Kaalnee Art Studio patron by artist Saifuddin Ahmed regularly organises art camps and workshops as a part of its promotional programmes to support and highlight young artists across the country.
The exhibition will end on May 23.
