Police early today arrested two members of the banned Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) in Fatikchhari upazila of Chattogram in connection with an alleged secret organisational meeting.

Rabiul Alam Khan, officer-in-charge of Fatikchhari Police Station, confirmed the arrests to this correspondent.

However, police did not disclose the identities of the arrestees.

According to police and local sources, more than 100 activists of the banned student organisation gathered at a community centre in Fatikchhari on Thursday afternoon for a meeting.

The matter came to light after photographs and details of the gathering were widely circulated on various social media platforms.

On receiving information, a police team conducted a raid at the venue. However, those attending the meeting had already left before the police team arrived.

Police later filed a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act with Fatikchhari Police Station in connection with the incident.

“We conducted overnight raids based on information gathered from the event and arrested two individuals who were present at the meeting,” OC Rabiul said.

He added that the two had already been produced before a court.

“Our drives are underway to identify and apprehend the remaining attendees,” the OC said.
