A farmer was killed when a goods-laden truck overturned by the side of Lalmonirhat-Rangpur road in the Chinipara Airport area under Sadar Upazila in Lalmonirhat district Friday morning.

The deceased is Mansher Ali, 62, of the area.

Police and witnesses said that Mansher Ali went to visit his chili field near his house in the morning when a Lalmonirhat-bound truck from Rangpur overturned by the side of the road and fell on him, leaving him dead on the spot.

After the accident, locals became agitated, detained the driver and his assistant and blocked the road, demanding safe roads.

The police reached the spot about an hour later and brought the situation under control.

Lalmonirhat Sadar police station officer-in-charge Saad Ahmed said that since the deceased's family had no complaints, the body was handed over to the relatives without any autopsy.

He said that they detained the driver and his helper.
