The United States embassy in Dhaka on Friday in a notice alerted its citizens in Bangladesh ahead of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad elections, urging them to remain vigilant, avoid demonstrations and exercise caution around large gatherings in the country.
The notification regarding the security alert was published on the US embassy’s web site, as well as on its social media platforms X and Facebook.
The notification said, ‘Bangladesh will hold parliamentary elections and a national referendum simultaneously on February 12, 2026. During the election period, political violence or extremist attacks may occur potentially targeting rallies, polling stations, and religious sites such as churches, temples, mosques, and other places of religious significance.’
It said, ‘US citizens should practice vigilance and remember that demonstrations or rallies intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and escalate into violence. You should avoid demonstrations and exercise caution in the vicinity of any large gatherings.’
‘The government of Bangladesh has announced restrictions on transportation beginning on February 10 for motorcycles and all transportation on February 11 and 12. Accordingly, the US Embassy in Dhaka will have limited onsite services on February 11 and 12,’ said the notification.
The US embassy in the notification also urged its citizens to always be aware of their surroundings, monitor local news, keep a low profile, always carry their charged mobile phone for emergency communications, review their personal security plans and plan for alternative travel routes.
