Rebel MLAs of the Trinamool Congress on Monday removed party founder and former West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee from the post of chairperson at a meeting held in Kolkata on Monday, reported the hindu.com.

Former minister Arup Roy was unanimously picked as the new chairperson of the party, added the report published online on Monday.


Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly Ritabrata Banerjee told presspersons after the meeting of the rebel group, added the report.

MLAs Sandipan Saha, Jawed Khan and Ritabrata were declared as general secretaries.

Besides, former Kolkata mayor Firhad Hakim, former minister Aroop Biswas and Rathin Ghosh were named as the vice-presidents of the rebel faction while Raghunathganj MLA Akhruzzaman was named the new treasurer.
