Bangladesh’s heavy defeat in the second Test has done little to blunt the impact of their historic win in Darwin.

The series-ending ICC rankings update has rewarded that breakthrough victory, lifting the Tigers to their highest-ever position in Test cricket.

After 26 years of Test cricket, the men in red and green have climbed to No. 6 for the first time.

Their rise to sixth was secured immediately after the win over the top-ranked side in Darwin. The post-series update has now officially confirmed it.

Bangladesh’s previous best was seventh, achieved after a 2-0 series sweep of Pakistan in May. They later slipped after losing the series in Zimbabwe.

Najmul Hossain Shanto’s side started the series with 73 rating points. After the drawn series, they have 78, moving above Pakistan on 75 and Sri Lanka on 76.

Australia remain at the summit despite losing in Darwin. Their rating, however, has fallen from 131 to 126.

South Africa are second with 119 points, followed by New Zealand on 106 and India on 104. England, above Bangladesh, have 99.

Bangladesh’s best ODI ranking is also sixth, first achieved by Mashrafe Bin Mortaza’s team in May 2017. Their best T20I ranking was fourth in July 2012, when the rankings were still relatively new.
