Google is adding a new feature to its Drive cloud storage service that uses its Gemini AI to provide automatic summaries of the contents within a folder.

The update, an evolution of the earlier 'nudges' feature, will display insights at the top of a folder's view. The feature is designed to give users a quick overview of the files inside without needing to open them individually. For more details, users can click the 'Explore with Gemini' option to get a full summary or ask follow-up questions in a side panel.

The feature is currently available only in English. It is being rolled out to Google Workspace customers on Business Standard, Business Plus, Enterprise Standard, and Enterprise Plus plans, as well as to Google One AI Premium and Google AI Pro for Education subscribers.

For administrators, the feature is controlled by the default personalisation setting for smart features in the Admin console. For individual users, it will be active by default if they have smart features enabled. Users can disable it for a specific folder by collapsing the 'insights by Gemini' section or by turning off smart features entirely.

The rollout has already begun for Rapid Release domains. For domains on a Scheduled Release schedule, the extended rollout is set to begin on December 9, 2025.
