Jatiya Ganatantrik Party-Jagpa spokesman Rashed Prodhan’s private secretary Joni Nandi was detained by the police from the capital’s Mohamamdpur area on Friday afternoon over the allegations of attacking protesters in front of Rashed’s house.
Dhaka Metropolitan Police Mohammadpur Division additional deputy commissioner Jewel Rana said that Joni Nandi was detained as he attacked protesting people.
‘The process for filing a case against him is under way,’ said Jewel Rana.
A group of local Bangladesh Nationalist Party activists were protesting in front of Rashed Prodhan’s house for the allegations of his attacking remarks about prime minister Tarique Rahman, according to the police.
Jagpa media wing member Nazrul Islam Bablu said that BNP leaders and activists gathered in front of Rashed Prodhan’s house since 10:30am.
‘At the time Joni came, and upon his entering the house at about 11:15am, the protesters hurled abuses at him, while one of them attacked him from behind, triggering the fight,’ said Nazrul.
Video footage showed that BNP supporters throwing brick chips and shoes at Rashed Prodhan’s house, giving him a 24-hour ultimatum to withdraw his comments and apologise.
