The president-elect will take oath as Bangladesh’s 23rd president on Friday (August 21) evening at the Darbar Hall of Bangabhaban following the presidential election tomorrow, reliable sources at the Secretariat and Parliament Secretariat said.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to begin around 7:30pm, the sources said.
Distinguished guests expected to attend the ceremony include the acting president, head of government, cabinet ministers, politicians, members of parliament, Supreme Court judges, senior civil and military officials, diplomats and other invited guests.
Following the resignation of Mohammed Shahabuddin as president on July 24, the election for a new president is scheduled to be held at parliament tomorrow.
Under the constitution, the president is the head of state and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces.
After taking the oath, the new president will formally assume their constitutional responsibilities and reside at Bangabhaban as head of state for the new term.
